So I have this footage of a Dead Ringer test back in December, where I wanted to find out how loud the DR really was. Well good thing I still kept it because now, we can actually compare it! So if my tests are correct, the DR didn't really go quieter because it's still the same loudness when you're up close. But now the difference is, the falloff distance is much shorter. Meaning the sound doesn't travel as far anymore. I'm not an audio specialist tho.
The Dead Ringer now: - Has a quieter de-cloak sound - Reduces cloak to 40% when uncloaking early - Has a 35% cap on the amount of cloak it can gain from an ammo pack
"This is Episode 2 of my Spy Guide, it teaches you about everything you'll need to know to handle Engineers. Some Spies that I've seen know how to kill an Engineer and his stuff, but most don't. Most Spies that I see can't destroy a single sentry. Well no more, after this episode, I expect to see each and every one of you kill 100 hard hats. Understand? Good, now get out there and kill!"
Whenever I have an unusually good round, I think about what I did differently. What worked and what didn't work. And this is what you're about to see.
From what I've noticed in this gameplay:
- I uncloaked more on safe areas and not out in plain sight. So many of us and including me tend to get too over confident or careless about this. And so now everytime I suck at spying I ask myself this question "Am I being careful not to get caught uncloaking?"
- I kept chipping away the front line. Altho I didn't notice this myself when I was playing, but it actually started making sense the more I think about it. If I destroyed the sentries in the back first, that wouldn't do any good because my teamates would still be stuck with the sentry up front.
- I cloaked early all the time, and so the enemy had no idea when I was about to strike. This is a real problem when you are against a team with microphones. One yell of a spy incoming, especially when you are a very big threat to them, and they will all act paranoid and look for you.
- I kept hitting targets in different parts of the map. A common mistake we make is to hit the same target or area again and again in a row. Unpredictability is your best friend next to stealth. One time playing a soldier I was running straight and I heard a decloaking noise but I was too slow and got backstabbed. After I respawned, I ran out there again and forgot about the spy... and again I heard a decloaking sound... but because I recognized the pattern. I turned around and blew him away. After that I said "I can't believe you tried to do that again".
